When Lauren first reached out after seeing my Laguna Gloria Indian wedding portraits, I knew they were my kind of couple. They loved my work’s timeless, elevated vibe and wanted their Austin engagement photos to have a similar look — but with a playful and personal twist.
Lauren and Garrett are the perfect mix of fun-loving and classic, and their engagement session at the Texas State Capitol and South Congress Avenue captured their love for each other and the city of Austin beautifully. While I’ve had the honor of kicking around Austin with so many of my couples, I love how each couple has such a distinct story and energy that makes their photos wholly their own.
Lauren and Garrett’s engagement session started at the Texas State Capitol in downtown Austin. Lauren loves the Capitol’s elegant, classic architecture. The rotunda balcony was our first stop, with its sweeping curves and arches offering the perfect backdrop for those romantic, elevated moments Lauren was craving.
While the architecture lent itself to traditional poses, Lauren and Garrett’s playful energy shone through. Between the sweet smiles and kisses, they couldn’t help but sneak in a little twirl here and there. Next, we moved to the stunning grand staircase, where we played with some fun flash photography for a modern twist.
Then we headed to the Capitol’s bright and airy atrium, where the natural light poured around the grand pillars.
After capturing those classic shots at the Capitol, we headed to South Congress Avenue, where Lauren and Garrett’s love for Austin truly came to life. Lauren had always dreamed of living in Austin. So much so that she quit her job in Dallas and made the leap to move here. Garrett, ever supportive, followed her—hence, their Austin love story began.
South Congress holds a special place in their hearts since they live nearby and spend so much time there. We strolled the sidewalks lined with iconic spots like the “I love you so much” mural, snapped some candid moments in cozy nooks and crannies, and finished at the Austin Motel, where its retro marquee read, “So close yet so far out.” Lauren loved the sign so much that she’s planning to use it on their Save the Dates. It was the perfect nod to their wedding being “so close and yet so far out.” And it’s TOTALLY Austin in spirit.
“AHHHHHH I LOVE THEM! Saw the photos and absolutely love them!!!”
