As an Austin wedding photographer, our trendy Texas capitol is one of my favorite places to explore with couples. Downtown Austin is a hub of activity with exciting new venues popping up all the time. And for my more outdoorsy couples? There are SO MANY Austin park engagement locations to soak up the city’s natural beauty. Here’s a list of my top, all-time favorite Austin engagement session locations for every style and personality.
Trendy Downtown Vibes
Taking photos along South Congress is a fun way to capture the spirit of the capitol’s downtown. Countless murals and iconic local businesses line the street for a truly Austin vibe. Make a date out of your engagement photos by stopping at your favorite food joints. Cozy up at your favorite coffee shop. Try out a new spot. It’s your day to soak up all downtown has to offer! You truly can’t go wrong wandering the South Congress sidewalks. Plus, a short walk north of the neighborhood takes you to Lady Bird Lake for more fun engagement photo activities!
Thinking about getting married in downtown Austin? This natural & modern South Congress Hotel wedding is one of my forever favorites.
Austin’s Fave Lakeside Oasis
If you’re in downtown Austin and love being on the water, I highly recommend renting a boat on Lady Bird Lake for engagement photos. Ann Marie & Adam rented a retro boat to pop open a bottle of champagne and take in the city skyline from the water. To this day, it’s one of my all-time favorite engagement sessions in Austin.

A Modern Architectural Masterpiece
A vibrant hub of community, arts and culture, the Austin Central Library is not your average city library. In true Austin fashion, the structure is innovative and soulful in its modern design. The building boasts a rooftop butterfly garden with panoramic views of downtown and colorful stained-glass installations surrounded by massive windows. The amount of natural lighting inside is unreal. Whether you’re an avid reader or simply love this state-of-the-art style architecture, this is hands down the hippest library engagement location.
Timeless & Romantic Oasis
Just 5 miles from downtown Austin and situated on Lake Austin, Laguna Gloria is another hidden treasure within the city. Part of The Contemporary Austin Museum, the grounds transport you to a world filled with stunning modern sculptures and romantic wooded pathways. Wander inside the Driscoll Villa built in 1916, and you’re immediately surrounded by historic architecture and artful details. Complete with swoon-worthy lighting, this location wins with all the dreamy photo ops inside and out.
Urban Naturescape
The winding Colorado River cuts through scenic downtown Austin at this urban park engagement location. With the Austin skyline perfectly outlined behind the river, this spot creates a beautiful backdrop for photos.

The Jewel of Austin
It’s hard to think of Austin without thinking of the 350 acres of Zilker Park nestled in the heart of downtown. Home to Austin City Limits and the refreshing pool at Barton Springs, it’s easy to see why Zilker is the natural gem of downtown. Set with the city skyline in the background and the open fields for picnicking and playing, Zilker is definitely one of the best engagement session locations for any Austin-loving couple.
Sweeping City Vistas
Considered the highest point within the city of Austin, Mount Bonnell is an 11-minute hike to some of the best views of the city and Lake Austin. A sweet (and moderately adventurous) spot to catch the sunset, you’re sure to get breathtaking photos of your love and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.
Hill Country Ranch Aesthetic
A short drive from downtown Austin, Circle C Ranch offers peaceful trails filled with shady trees, wide open green fields, and plenty of wildflowers surrounding Slaughter Creek in the springtime. This park offers more privacy from the more popular downtown parks, but with all the benefits of natural Hill Country scenery tucked into the city.
Nature Meets City Vibes
If you love being by the water but aren’t ready to traverse the busy trails of Lady Bird Lake, Mueller Lake is the perfect spot. Gorgeous trees and grassy lakesides will make cozying up with your partner a breeze. Conveniently located within the city, this park is close to many local restaurants and coffee shops for all the city vibes without the crowds – the perfect blend of nature + trendy city scenes.
Favorite Riverside Retreat
While this state park is a little over an hour drive from Austin, my couples absolutely love taking a day trip to the tranquil falls of the Pedernales River. Surrounded by iconic Hill Country scenery, Pedernales Falls offers an easy hike down to the river with its landmark limestone slabs. Whether you want to wade in the water or jump in for a swim on a hot Texas day, this spot ALWAYS delivers stunning engagement photos for my Austin-area couples. See more from Emma & Stephen’s engagement photos at Pedernales Falls here.
Don’t see the location you’re interested in on this list? I’m always up for an adventure! If it’s a new-to-me location, I will scout it out for all the best photo ops and make sure we have everything we need to make your Austin engagement photos an experience you never want to forget.
