Your engagement session isn’t just another item on your wedding to-do list. It’s a chance to slow down, reconnect, and focus on what your wedding is really about: your relationship. For Addison and Kathryn, who are planning their wedding in Texas from their home in Colorado, their engagement session was a reminder to breathe. We treated their session like a date, exploring The Pearl in San Antonio and capturing their cozy, timeless love.

Addison and Kathryn met at Texas State, where they were friends until their relationship naturally developed into something deeper. Though they now live in Colorado, they both grew up here in Texas, and are planning their wedding near San Antonio. We scheduled their engagement session to coincide with their already planned trip to town to handle wedding logistics. That’s the benefit of working with a local photographer who has photographed many weddings for out-of-town couples! I am ready and willing to work around your schedule so you can get the photos you want without extra travel days. If you’re planning a destination wedding in Texas, this blog shares everything you need to know about working with a local photographer!
Since they’re planning their wedding here, Addison and Kathryn wanted their engagement photos to capture everything they love about San Antonio. With dozens of restaurants and shops, plus the coolest architecture, The Pearl was the perfect location! We wandered throughout the property, along the river, and made a pit stop in The Twig Book Shop to reminisce about all of Kathryn and Addison’s college library dates.

Each of my engagement sessions includes two outfits. Addison and Kathryn started with a fancier outfit before switching into something more casual, though both looks were vintage-inspired! In fact, Addison even wore a neck scarf that belonged to her grandmother in her second outfit.
Though Addison and Kathryn initially felt nervous in front of the camera, I know how to create a warm and easy environment, so couples feel comfortable and have fun. As we talked and walked around, their nerves melted into genuine excitement. Soon, they forgot the camera was even there and were able to be their full selves! Between gentle posing instructions, I captured organic moments of love and joy. Little touches, soft glances, and genuine laughter create the best photos!

Planning lesbian engagement photos requires a certain level of awareness and intention. This is especially true for out-of-town couples like Addison and Kathryn! My couples trust me to find the best places for their sessions, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. I always want my couples to feel free to be themselves and express their love, so I only plan sessions where I know they will be safe and celebrated.
That’s why I’ve put together a list of 15 LGBTQ+ friendly wedding venues in San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country! Addison and Kathryn are planning their “elegant rager” wedding at Prospect House in Dripping Springs, which is number 8 on this list. I can’t wait to continue celebrating with them on their wedding day and capture photos that preserve the feeling of their love. If you’re a queer couple getting married in San Antonio, Austin, or the Hill Country, I would love to work with you. Explore my wedding photography packages and inquire to learn more!
