When it comes to capturing the essence of your wedding day, detail photos play a crucial role in preserving all the little touches you put so much love and thought into. With over seven years of experience as a San Antonio wedding photographer, I always make sure to capture every personal element woven throughout your day – and I’m not just talking about flat-lays!
I’ve crafted a way to tell your love story artfully, in a way that goes beyond the “traditional” detail shots and offers a glimpse into the heart of your celebration.
Since I know how much the small things can be the big things, I’m sharing my go-to checklist of must-have wedding detail photos. Whether it’s how you honor passed loved ones or highlighting the playful twists you incorporate into your day, this checklist is curated to help you remember every little detail.
Why Are Wedding Details Important?
My couples spend months, if not years, crafting a day that’s authentic to them and their love. We all know your day shouldn’t look like anyone else’s, and wedding detail photos are one way to do that. Capturing these details celebrate your style and ensures the emotions, stories, and connections you hold dear radiate through every photo.
The details reflect the heart and soul of every second.
Making Your Wedding Detail Photos Meaningful
Detail shot photography is an art and a beautiful form of storytelling. But, it’s so important to go beyond flat-lays and capture detail shots organically in their natural environment. It’s having “rings on the fly” moments where I get a close up of your wedding rings on your fingers for the first time as newlyweds. It’s when you help your dad put on the tie you gave him with a sentimental photo sewn into it.
Some of my couples’ favorite wedding detail shots aren’t flay lays at all. They’re the in-the-moment details that paint a fuller picture of exactly how their day looked and felt.
Weddings are whirlwinds and over in a blink of an eye. Part of my job as a photographer is to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

This checklist is simply the starting point. I always encourage my couples to incorporate the little things that mean the most – and leave out anything that doesn’t resonate. I’ve had brides who don’t want a bunch of wedding dress photos or detail shots, and some who are allll about them! Whether you want me to focus on the people in a documentary-style or have a list of little sentimental details for me to capture, it’s your day!
So what elements of your wedding day do you know will bring you the most joy? What lights you up as a couple? And what little stories are you weaving throughout?
Those are your details, so let’s run with them! Have more questions about details to incorporate into your day, or looking for a San Antonio wedding photographer to capture your Hill Country wedding? I’d love to grab a coffee and chat with you – you get in touch with me here.
